Anna Kagan, MD PhD FACP FASN

Dr. Anna Kagan graduated Summa Cum Laude from Brandeis University with a Bachelor of Science in both Physics and Chemistry while being elected to the distinguished Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society.  She received her Doctorate of Medicine and Doctorate of Philosophy at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where she was inducted to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.  She completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the world renowned Massachusetts General Hospital.  Dr. Kagan then completed her Fellowship in Nephrology at Baylor College of Medicine.  

Dr. Kagan is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology and is a Specialist in Clinical Hypertension.  She is a Fellow of the American Society of Nephrology, a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, and a member of the American Society of Transplantation.  

Dr. Kagan is the Clinical Service Chief of Nephrology at Houston Methodist Hospital. She is also the medical director of both DaVita Binz and the Houston Methodist Hospital Inpatient Dialysis Unit.  

Dr. Kagan is one of the transplant nephrologists here at HKC, chairing the Transplant Medical Safety Quality Management committee for the Houston Methodist Hospital.  She is the Chair of both the Houston Methodist and Methodist System Medication Safety Committees.

Dr. Kagan is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University College of Medicine.  

Dr. Kagan has received numerous accolades, being named a Top 300 Physician in Houston in 2012 by Health and Fitness Sports Magazine, receiving the Patients' Choice Award from Vitals.com in 2013 and being recognized as a Rising Star by Super Doctors from 2015 to 2017 as well as a Top Doctor in Houstonia Magazine in 2017.

 

Benjamin J Lee, MD MAS FASN

Dr. Benjamin J. Lee graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Harvard College, where he was named a John Harvard Scholar and elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society.  After obtaining his Doctorate of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Lee completed internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Lee subsequently completed his fellowship in Nephrology at UCSF while simultaneously obtaining a Master of Advanced Study in Clinical Research from the UCSF Departments of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. At UCSF, he was named the 2015-2016 ACGME Clinical Fellow of the Year in Nephrology and honored with a Teaching Excellence Award for Cherished Housestaff (TEACH) and the Andy I. Choi Memorial Scholarship.

Dr. Lee is Board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Nephrology. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Nephrology, an AHSCP Certified Hypertension Specialist, and a member of the American Society of Transplantation. He is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at both Weill Cornell Medical College and the Houston Methodist Institute of Academic Medicine, as well as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University College of Medicine. Dr. Lee also works closely with the J.C. Walter Jr. Transplant Center at Houston Methodist Hospital to care for kidney transplant patients.

Dr. Lee serves as a member of both the Core Faculty and Program Evaluation Committee for the Houston Methodist Internal Medicine Residency Program. He is invested in medical education, regularly lecturing trainees at Houston Methodist Hospital in the medical and surgical intensive care units and teaching trainees who rotate with the practice. Dr. Lee received a 2021 Faculty Development Award from the Texas A&M College of Medicine and a 2022 Clinical Scholar Award (Clinical Educator) from the Houston Methodist Academic Institute. Dr. Lee also serves on the Board of Trustees for KDSAP (Kidney Disease Screening and Awareness Program), an organization that fosters student career development and community outreach regarding chronic kidney disease.

 

Peter T Nguyen, MD FACP FASN

Dr. Peter Nguyen graduated with Honors from the University of Texas at Austin and received his medical degree from Texas Tech School of Medicine.  He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine where he was inducted to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.  Dr. Nguyen completed his fellowship in Nephrology at Baylor, serving as Chief Fellow during his final year.  He is board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Nephrology and is a Specialist in Clinical Hypertension.  

A member of the Board of Directors, Dr. Nguyen is the President of the Medical Staff at Houston Methodist Hospital. He was also recently appointed the Associate Chief Medical Information Officer for Houston Methodist. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Dr. Nguyen is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, a Fellow of the American Society of Nephrology, a member of the American Society of Transplantation, and a member of Renal Physicians Association.  He is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College and the Institute of Academic Medicine at Houston Methodist Hospital, an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University College of Medicine, and a Clinical Instructor at Baylor College of Medicine.

Dr. Nguyen also specializes in transplantation, working with the JC Walter Transplant Center at Houston Methodist Hospital.  He is the medical director of DaVita Galleria and DaVita Avian dialysis facilities.  

Among his accolades, Dr. Nguyen has been recognized as a Top 300 Physician in Houston in 2012 by Health and Fitness Sports Magazine, a Top Doctor in Houstonia Magazine in 2013-2015 and 2017-2023 and also as a Rising Star by Super Doctors in 2015 and 2016. He is also an Ironman and a Boston Qualifier and Finisher.

 

Juan Jorge Olivero, MD KHS FASN

Dr. Juan Jorge Olivero received his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin after graduating from Strake Jesuit College Preparatory.  He received his Doctorate of Medicine from Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara and his Fifth Pathway Certificate from New York Medical College.  Dr. Olivero completed his internship and residency at Baylor College of Medicine.  He also received his Fellowship in Nephrology from Baylor.  

Dr. Olivero is board-certified in Nephrology and is a certified Specialist in Clinical Hypertension.  He is a Fellow of the American Society of Nephrology and is certified by the American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology in kidney ultrasonography.

Dr. Olivero is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at both Weill Cornell Medical College and The Institute of Academic Medicine at Houston Methodist Hospital.  He serves as medical director for DaVita Medical Center Dialysis, DaVita @ Home Dialysis, Houston Transitional Care DaVita Dialysis, Afton Oaks DaVita Dialysis, and Oasis of Galleria DaVita Dialysis. Dr. Olivero is also Medical Director of Dialysis at Kindred Hospital Medical Center.

Dr. Olivero is a Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, a Catholic order of knighthood dating back to 1099 that is under the protection of the Holy See (Pope Francis) at the Vatican City State.

Juan Jose Olivero, MD saw his first patient on July 1, 1970. December 20, 2018 - the day he saw his last patient - marked the end of an era.

We celebrate an inspiring career. He has cared for thousands of patients, trained hundreds of doctors, and mentored 4 nephrologists.
